This ebook, titled “Uncertainty Management for Robust Industrial Design in Aeronautics” (PDF), covers cutting-edge findings related to uncertainty quantification and optimization under uncertainties (i.e. robust and reliable optimization). It places a particular emphasis on turbomachinery and aeronautics, despite the fact that it is not limited to these fields. Other areas are also covered in this ebook. It discusses innovative approaches to the quantification of uncertainty, such as non-intrusive polynomial chaos, adjoint-based and multi-level Monte Carlo methods, collocation methods, and perturbation methods. It incorporates techniques for the characterization of the uncertainties that are most significant, in addition to formulas for the optimization of robust and dependable design. One of the things that sets this ebook apart from others is its one-of-a-kind collection of test cases with prescribed uncertainties. These test cases are representative of the current engineering practice of the industrial consortium partners that are involved in UMRIDA, which is a level 1 collaborative project within the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission (FP7). All of the developed methods are evaluated in comparison to these various industry problems. In addition, the e-book contains a chapter that is devoted to Best Practice Guidelines for Uncertainty Quantification and Robust Design Optimization.
